On the afternoon of April 15, members of the Auto Industry Alumni Association of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) Antai EMBA (hereinafter referred to as the "Association"), led by Ms. Yang Guangzi, Director of Alumni Affairs at SJTU Antai, and Mr. Sun Liangze, President of the Association, visited MIEE Automotive's Shanghai headquarters. The delegation engaged in discussions with MIEE executives on the theme of "Global Expansion of Chinese Intelligent Manufacturing in the NewTariff Era."
Against the backdrop of reshaping global trade dynamics and the accelerated internationalization of Chinese automotive brands, this exchange not only provided insights into industry trends but also prompted deep reflections on the future development of China's automotive sector. Participants explored opportunities and challenges faced by Chinese automakers in overseas markets from multiple dimensions, including policy, market dynamics, technological innovation, and brand building. Key questions addressed included: How to position effectively in complex global competition? How to break through technological barriers and trade restrictions? And how to gain global recognition for "Chinese Intelligent Manufacturing"?
As a practitioner in China's automotive globalization efforts, MIEE Automotive shared its overseas market strategies and operational experiences. Association members contributed constructive perspectives from academic, investment, and supply chain viewpoints. A consensus emerged during discussions: Chinese automotive globalization is transitioning from "price-driven" to "value-driven" approaches, requiring balanced emphasis on technological innovation, brand cultivation, and localized operations to establish sustainable global presence.
The Association, as a vital industry organization within the SJTU Antai EMBA ecosystem, has consistently focused on frontier automotive fields including intelligent connectivity, new energy, and globalization. Through corporate visits, case studies, and resource-matching initiatives, it actively helps member enterprises seize development opportunities arising from industrial transformation.
The delegation visited MIEE's Shiyan Automotive Industry Reception Center in Shanghai, gaining insights into the development history and current status of Shiyan and the "Wuchang-Xiangyang-Shiyan-Suizhou Automobile Industrial Cluster". Leveraging Shiyan's complete industrial chain and dense manufacturing ecosystem—earning it the title of "China's Commercial Vehicle Capital"—MIEE is rapidly emerging as a significant new force in China's automotive globalization.
During thematic presentations, Liu Peng, General Manager of MIEE Automotive, delivered a speech titled "Shiyan Automotive Industry Chain & MIEE's Export Practices," sharing practical experiences in overseas market research, channel development, and collaborative models based on the supply chain capabilities of the Wuchang-Xiangyang-Shiyan-Suizhou cluster and MIEE's export expertise.
Chen Hongjun, Vice President of the Association, followed with a presentation on "Strategic Considerations for Chinese Automotive Globalization Under New Tariff Policies." Drawing from SJTU Antai Industry Research Institute's latest China Automotive Globalization White Paper, he analyzed the restructuring impacts of EU carbon tariffs and U.S. supply chain reviews on global networks, while highlighting challenges and opportunities in shortened production cycles and cross-cultural management model exports. These research-based insights provided fresh perspectives for corporate decision-makers.
In roundtable discussions, Association members conducted in-depth dialogues on "Breaking Through Global Barriers for Automotive Expansion." Participants explored multi-dimensional solutions to challenges such as traditional automakers' transformation pains and opportunities in second-hand equipment exports, culminating in multiple cooperation intentions and innovation pathways.
Concluding the event, Association President Sun Liangze emphasized: "Having served members for 15 years, our Association remains committed to building a high-quality development community within China's business education landscape. With over 600 premium members, we plan to optimize our event model by 2025, introducing lighter 'afternoon tea' formats to enhance peer-to-peer and cross-industry exchanges. Through these efforts, we aim to create value for members by exposing them to real market demands, novel operational models, and commercial opportunities."
